My Thoughts on Research

It's been over a year since I delved into the world of research, yet I still feel like a novice in this vast field. However, this journey has led me to resonate with the words of the renowned German physicist, Wernher von Braun, who famously quoted, 'Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing.' It may sound amusing at first, but upon reflection, it holds a profound truth. Research often feels like navigating through darkness, with only intuition to guide us, illuminating fluorescent pathways that gradually reveal themselves. Unlike the clarity of broad daylight, where our direction is clear, research demands a keen intuition to discern the way forward. Despite its challenges, honing this intuition is crucial for navigating the complexities of the research process.

  • Understanding Evapotranspiration Variability between the Eastern and Western Himalayas

Below is a PICO presentation summarizing a segment of my master's thesis, which focuses on offering a solution or aiding in the selection process for estimating Potential Evapotranspiration (PET) in the Himalayan region. This research serves as a valuable tool for water accounting, irrigation management, watershed management practices, and occasionally for climate change studies. By narrowing down options and choosing an optimal method for PET estimation, this work contributes to informed decision-making in various water-related sectors and enhances our understanding of hydrological processes in the Himalayas.

  • Understanding Hyporheic exchange flows around a meandering section of pristine Himalayan headwaters.

This poster presents a pilot-scale study from my PhD research, focusing on developing a preliminary understanding of hyporheic exchange in the pristine headwaters of the Himalayas. To achieve this goal, we utilized mini drive point piezometers, developed indigenously and inspired by Rivett et al. (2008). These piezometers serve as a key tool in investigating the complex dynamics of subsurface water flow and interaction in mountainous environments, offering valuable insights into hyporheic exchange processes. Our study contributes to advancing the understanding of hydrological phenomena in Himalayan ecosystems and lays the groundwork for further research in this critical area
